Catastrophe Games

Publisher of interesting historical board games that don't take all day to play
Despite the pained look on my face, and the beaming look on Cooper's face, I had a lot of fun with Chicago '68 at our store, Riverwalk Games. The art is fantastic, and @yoyoni.bsky.social played a key role in curating what you see. Have not taken a shot of whatever poison Yoni game me, yet...
Teach & Play of Chicago ‘68 with @catastrophegames.bsky.social and the good people of Riverwalk Games in Michigan. The loser was punished with a shot of Malört, Chicago’s tear gas in a bottle. #boardgames #malort
How about firing Syrski instead? Honestly, what does that man have on Zelensky to still have his job after poorly micromanaging in full Soviet-style the war so far???
Following the dismissal of Ukrainian Defense Minister Fedorov, protests have erupted in Kyiv, Ukraine.

I ran my first Kriegsspiel over the weekend, after watching Paul LaFontaine run them for years @ Origins and online. It was fun trying to keep everything running while watching the different commander's attempt to solve the problem. Very much like being the Dungeon Master!
Something interesting is coming soon... Follow "A More Perfect Union" here! www.kickstarter.com/projects/cam...

Christopher is running a new KS campaign about trick taking games. Now I'm no expert on this niche, but each of these uses some fascinating mechanics. Especially Franciscan Diamond, which uses asymmetric suits. As in, each suit has a different # of cards. Wild! www.kickstarter.com/projects/val...
Supercollider, Growing Groves, The Franciscan Diamond

Patria libre, 3 player, military faction for the win!
Pushing out of the green zone again with Sadr City. Tied the game when I was sure I was going to win ... Great play though
At Armchair Dragoons at Origins, playing True Command, watching 2 players maneuvering scouts and decoys against the other sides scouts and decoys. Fascinating!
Nice to arrive to Origins to find a prototype of Zurmat 2nd edition waiting for me!
Off to Origins first thing in the morning! Hope to see you there!
Need a sword? Or an ax? Warhammer? Or my favorite, a staff? Sabersmith, largest sword smith in the US, and sadly for my wallet, on the way back from JFHQ...
Last night's game was Old King's Crown. I think I like it, but there's so much going on with the game, I can't say for certain...
Latest map of A More Perfect Union just in time for Origins/ @armchairdragoons.bsky.social . Check us out if you are going to be there!
NOT SOLD OUT HERE AT CATASTROPHE!!! We are almost out of @jsbuckley.bsky.social 's Battlegroup Clash, but managed to get the last remaining copies in the US! I expect we'll be sold out by the end of JUL though....
True Command, First Kharkiv, slow methodical German advance, pushing the Soviets into the center. No contact yet...
If I was in Hamburg on 31 MAY, I know where I would be, what game I would be playing, and what Linkin Park shirt I'd be wearing.
I'm going to let this idprt sp310 label printer hang in my shop office as a warning to the other printer of what happens to printers that refuse to work. You had one job iDRPT.... COIN ops in the office, 2026
Finally got the shop open! Riverwalk Games in ole Middleville MI

Finally have lights in our future game store... 3 weeks to go!
This look, BTW, is the one I always use when @armchairdragoons.bsky.social Brant is taking photos... gotta keep an eye on Bayonet Brant!
Doing some grognard tonight. Fascinating system by Hermann Lutmann, game is Steamroller: Tannenburg 1914. Kinda interested in the battle but more intrigued by the mechanics. Very happy to try it, last year's BGF score.
Taking a break from building a game store to actually PLAY a game. Voodoo Boys for the win against Maelstrom (who I always hate) and crazy Johnny Silverhand. Gangs of Night City, CP2077
The latest arrivals to the store from our allies in Europe: Battlegroup Clash and Castelnuovo
Here's a new review about Zurmat by @charlietheel.bsky.social Great points made. BTW, cubes were used because they were cheaper and easier for players to use, so it was more a publishing decision than a design choice. I love Charlie's perspective, as I never gave that decision much deliberation.
Zurmat is designer Tim Densham's memoir of his time in Afghanistan. It's a small scale wargame concerned with uncertainty, efficiency, and winning over the local populace. I struggle with this one a little due to current events. playerelimination.com/2026/03/16/a...
Afghanistan: Decades of Strife was the first game of the day, again with @djackthompson.bsky.social , Jim and another one of our designers, John Lapham. Tight to the very end
