David - AI is good at doing simple tasks over and over again very quickly which is why it is such a threat to cybersecurity #UKSG2026

Rick - downloading files from these sites you put the network at risk as you don't know what you are downloading - so we should be discouraging students from using them #UKSG2026

Rick - there is too much neutrality around sites like SciHub - poses a risk to campus security - it exposing the campus to cyber attacks if you share access to your credentials, its not just the licenced content but everything else you can access on the network #UKSG2026

Rick Anderson up next - worried our desire to open up content is not just about opening up access but provides an "in" for bad actors into our systems. Honoring our licences is impt for protecting our campuses #UKSG2026

Susie - librarians are more aware of cyber security and it is seen as a shared institutional responsibility which is a positive but we need to remain vigilant #UKSG2026

Susie - we are in an evolving threat landscape - varying levels of info literacy in terms of security has an impact on this #UKSG2026

Susie - 71% felt that pirated scholarly materials is being used to train LLMs developed by AI companies - we don't know the status of this research which is training these LLMs #UKSG2026

Susie - 69% wouldn't point learners to sites like scihub, see them as a threat to security but there is a rise in librarians not thinking these sites are breaking the law #UKSG2026

Susie - librarians are concerned about student and staff personal data security and cybersecurity or lack of data security damaging reputation (as well as other things) #UKSG2026

Susie - awareness of pirate sites is increasing but there is confusion around the legality of pirate sites and there was a mixture in terms of view around whether they threaten research integrity #UKSG2026

Susie Winter from Scholarly Networks Security Initiatives - 85% of librarians agreed that cybersecurity threats are increasing #UKSG2026

Final plenary - what is keeping librarians and CISOs awake at night? #UKSG2026

Sam - thinking about how they support people who raise a complaint and also the team dealing with the issue (affects everyone) - need to find the right person for them to talk to. Then also do we follow up with them 3 months, 6 months later and who does that? #UKSG2026

Mary - if a student raises an issue or a complaint can they be confident in how they will be protected - like who will supervise them who will write them a reference #UKSG2026

Mary - research integrity is not just a nice to have. Funders and publishers need to tighten up on this and make it more rewarding to incorporate good research practice into bids, research projects and publications #UKSG2026

Sam - reflections from research integrity training again mentions time - people feel it isn't rewarded, there isn't the incentives and the publish or perish narrative doesn't help #UKSG2026

Mary - challenge for academics in terms of research integrity is headspace - they have multiple roles - keeping up to date with research integrity principles and understanding and applying them is a challenge #UKSG2026
