Religious skepticism often meets with #PascalsWager, the old "isn't it better to believe in God and be wrong than to not..." Except 👆 is a false dichotomy that assumes one particular deity exists. THIS is what the *ahem* argument should look like:

It's Bluesky—of course I'm on the Left. Here, like so many, to complain about how terrible things are, at least in Murica, and how stupid/evil Republicans are. Apparently my opinions suck and my photography isn't much better. (Gen X, he/they, Chicago.)
One problem with being a skeptic is that you're always kind of the asshole, especially because so many people into woo—especially those who sell it—have made it such a part of their personality. Another is that it's always on you to "be more open minded," that YOU'RE more likely wrong.

As a Chicagoan, I will readily admit NYC has a better public transportation system. But the biggest difference I think about is how New Yorkers get "online" to wait for a bus while in Chicago we just hang out around the stop then rush and crowd the door when the bus shows up.

As an atheist, I'm so gawddam sick of the whole "atheists are better Christians than Christians" trope. It's the No True Christian(/Scotsman) fallacy and continues the notion that "Christian = good person," while watering (True) Christianity down to a humanist philosophy of empathy and respect.
Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

Unpopular opinion: humans should have to be bored sometimes. I don't think we 21st century people appreciate that for like 99.9% of our existence, we've had to figure out shit to do—or just sit and contemplate. Now, it's almost an imperative to be constantly either consuming or creating content.
I feel sorry for people who didn't grow up with true boredom. The kind of rainy day in the 70s or 80s with only black & white films on TV, nothing to do on a hot Saturday, or empty time after a school day boredom. There was self discovery, reading, experimentation, play - and joy - in that boredom.
Everything was so much better in the past... But like the recent past, not too far, before electricity and indoor plumbing and cars and stuff. And so long as you ignore all the sexism, racism, and bigotry.
This is what happens when you kick God out of fast-food restaurants. Wait, what?
Ahh, I love seeing 90s fashion coming back... "Hey look, it's something you remember from the past, only lower quality and more expensive!"
So TIL about "Advanced Biostructural Correction," or "ABC," which is a groundbreaking new method of selling subluxation-based chiropractic woo. Like every new "advance," it was discovered by some chiropractor and claims to treat/cure any-/everything... And, of course, no evidence it works.
