This Friday, join us on campus for the grand opening of EMANATA, our annual exhibition of comics & art from MFA Comics students at CCA! 13 cartoonists have filled the walls of the Novack Gallery with comics pages, and many will have print copies of their work for sale too. Free & open to the public!

MFA Comics alum Kayan Cheung-Miaw has completed a gorgeously vivid mural, “This Asian American Life,” up on Hyde Street, near the SF Asian Art Museum! In comic-like panels, the viewer journeys through scenes of SF Chinatown through childlike eyes and memory. Congratulations on the beautiful mural!

I also got to contribute some annotations to this! This book is really something special. Dozens of queer and trans artists, writers, and scholars added their thoughts and experiences to this book — expanding and broadening what was already a seminal piece of queer literature.

Congratulations to Professor @frednoland.bsky.social for the release of Our Little Wild Time on May 19!! Published by Fantagraphics, this volume collects several absurdly dark and upsettingly hilarious comics, myriad portraits and a career-spanning interview. So excited to see this collection out!

Today our BFA and MFA Comics programs joined forces to make our new zine yearbook! Students and faculty carved little block-printing self-portraits and printed them together in little zines for everyone to take home.

Next Monday May 4, 4pm at the West Branch of Berkeley Public Library, CCA MFA Comics alum @comixdimitrea.bsky.social will facilitate a Memoir Comics Workshop: Magic in the Mundane! Come learn and create and honor your memories in your voice! Materials provided, all levels of comics-making welcome!
