A five-year transition period will allow manufacturers to implement the update through planned product and packaging revisions.

CENELEC has established a new Technical Committee, CLC/TC 220 "Alcohol interlocks", to continue and strengthen European standardization in this important safety field. The committee, with the Secretariat held by DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies), will develop and maintain standards for alcohol interlock systems designed to prevent the operation of vehicles, equipment, or the performance of activities when alcohol levels exceed defined limits.
Building on the well-established EN 50436 series, this work supports safer mobility, transport operations, workplaces, and communities across Europe. The committee will also address critical aspects such as cybersecurity, data security, vehicle interfaces, and installation requirements.
This initiative highlights how European standardization contributes to public safety by providing trusted, harmonized requirements that enable reliable technologies and support policy objectives across the hashtag#SingleMarket.

Today, CEN and CENELEC held an information session for their 6 Affiliates in the realms of CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies organized in Cyprus. Affiliates are National Standardization Bodies or National Committees from candidate countries to EU accession. The main objectives of this gathering, led by Dr. Elisabeth Stampfl-Blaha (Chair of CEN and CENELEC Membership relations and Monitoring Committee), was to provide Affiliates with information and guidance on their path to full membership, one of the criteria included in the EU Acquis Communautaire. This event was very interactive and productive, leading to the identification of concrete follow-up actions in the near future.

🌍 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬.
In May 2026, CEN and the Institute of Standards of Cambodia (ISC) signed a License Agreement covering the adoption of more than 50 hashtag#Eurocodes, with the national adoption process expected to be completed by June 2027.
This milestone marks an important step in Cambodia’s alignment with internationally recognised structural design standards and highlights the growing interest in Eurocodes across the hashtag#ASEAN region to support safer, higher-quality and more resilient hashtag#construction practices.
The agreement also demonstrates the lasting impact of the Eurocodes Dialogue, implemented under the European Commission’s E-READI programme and managed by DG INTPA. Since 2019, the initiative has fostered technical cooperation, policy dialogue, training and knowledge exchange between the EU and ASEAN Member States in the field of construction standards.
Led by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) EU Science, Research and Innovation in collaboration with the ASEAN Consultative Committee for Standards and Quality (ACCSQ), the Dialogue has helped strengthen capacities, build expertise and deepen connections between European and ASEAN stakeholders.
This achievement is another example of how hashtag#standards can support hashtag#internationalcooperation, sustainable development and economic growth.
