Before the billionaires, it was trivial to order anything to your house within a day. To search for anything on the internet. To facetime your family. To stream arbitrary media. To be in self-driving cars. To watch rockets the size of skyscapers land vertically. To have multiple AIs in your pocket.

Billionaires are utterly miserable. If they were good people they’d be spending their money on making life better for everyone, saving the planet and quietly enjoying their wealth with loved ones. They can’t do those things because they’re sociopaths who live to be in the spotlight and ruin lives.

It’s a more normie friendly way of saying his cars are probabilistic inference machines operating at the very physical limits of computation, both in terms of thermodynamic efficiency and speed. No one actually thinks the summoned entities from inscribed runes forged in sacred kilns are alive.

yesterday musk said that companies that "overstate claims about their product" will be banned from advertising on X, today he says that his cars are alive

We’re making it so proprietary software is no longer the moat to become a billionaire. Everything becoming decompiled and open source at a time where the barrier to entry for contributing to software is going much lower. Only way to become a tech billionaire now is with taste, not walled gardens.

The billionaires weren't satisfied with being monstrously, spectacularly, obscenely wealthy, so now everything is trash.

I would guesstimate that 100% of the population does labor 100% differently. Fixed software assumes you are common to the next person, and operate within bounds. AI assumes you are different and operate at jagged edges. Any two techbros doing agentic engineering will do so differently.

I would LOVE to see tech bros’ guesstimates of what shares of the population do different types of labor. Part of the infatuation with AI has to be that they can’t really imagine what most people do all day

I wonder if relying on vendors is the issue, instead of using a generic frontier cloud agent. My primary hobby is skating. I use agents for advice with it, e.g. Based on last workout / planned workout, what would be best to focus on, how to approach a trick, etc. No vendor offers this afaik

Or, take something else that happened: A retired person who proudly had a schedule. It was a lot of time allocated to their hobbies, the purpose of which is to not clock in but to prioritize. You can’t really optimize that and it didn’t fit what the vendor thought an agent should do.
