the sustainable angle is what sold me on smaller models before efficiency was fashionable. in applied ML most of my wins came from feature engineering and a right-sized model, not scale. the failure mode is reaching for GenAI when a linear model would ship faster.

It took 7 years of self-funded work, but Sonic Pi is finally at a place I'm happy with. It's even easier than beginners and even more powerful for pro users - and just way more polished in every way. It's also a (friendly) technical trojan horse for SuperSonic. www.patreon.com/samaaron/pos...

Hey there, happy Friday and huge love to you wherever you are in the world. Today, it's time to open the vaults and let loose something that

GitHub argues that its problems are caused by unprecedented scaling demands caused by AI, but I’m not convinced. I think they might be more down to poor engineering combined with conflicting priorities at Microsoft. Also my irony meter just exploded.

What’s gone wrong at GitHub?

For most of its life, GitHub has been remarkably reliable. Then, somewhere in the last year or so, that stopped being the case. What happened?

AI makes code cheap to write. Verifying it is now the hard, expensive, human part — and the "prompt and review" model risks burning out the very engineers we need to catch what AI gets wrong. My latest for @leaddev.com leaddev.com/ai/shipping-...

Shipping faster, thinking less? The AI code verification trap

As AI floods codebases with machine-generated output, the AI verification trap emerges to test the resolve of modern developers.
