People will say it's "Tech Week" here in NYC. Well, any event run by Andreessen Horowitz is illegitimate, because the NYC tech community has values, and one of its most fundamental is its humanity. They have forfeited theirs.
The corporate "invest in AI" narrative that's driving recent layoffs falls apart so quick under scrutiny. It's never been about AI replacing engineers. It's because their revenues and profits look better, and, oh, also, to look into AI. When I was at HPE, a whole department formed for just that.

My first dev job was with @tenetpartners.bsky.social, who I learned cut their entire leadership team's pay and deferred payments to senior staff to avoid layoffs before I joined. Given the immense valuations, and while I understand they don't always take a salary, why can't C-suites do this?
