The monument to Sir Thomas Parkyns at St Mary's, Bunny is one I've long wanted to see. Designed by Sir Thomas himself before his death in 1741 it shows him in wrestling pose, ready to take anyone on! Whilst on the right death has taken him on and 'thrown him' #MonumentsMonday

A 15thC depiction of St Alphege at St Mary's, Deerhurst. Apparently originally a monk at Deerhurst he eventually became the Archbishop of Canterbury before being killed by the Danish army in 1012. I particularly like the variety of patterns and textures in his robe. #StainedGlassSunday

The 9thC Saxon font at St Mary's, Deerhurst with its mesmerising pattern of swirls. The bowl was found abandoned in a farmyard in the mid 19thC, the base was found nearby and the two were subsequently reunited in the church. Such an important piece of art. #FontsOnFriday

No, I'm not suddenly taking wonky photos....the 15thC tower at St Martin, Woolstone, Gloucestershire really does lean at a rather alarming angle. So much so that it was stabilized with reinforced concrete piles in the 1970s to stop it abandoning the rest of the church! #SteepleSaturday

This window of 14thC glass is possibly the highlight at St Michael the Archangel, Halam. The two top lights show St Christopher and St Blaise and the two at the base show Eve spinning and Adam delving. I'm particularly fond of the squished birds in the borders! #StainedGlassSunday

TIL about the Twelve Boys who Routed the Fascists in Weymouth, Dorset in August 1938. 12 Boys, some of them less than 10 years old, went to Weymouth beach and barracked Mr. Robert Saunders, a Fascist speaker He ignored them, so they went away and returned with toffee tins half filled with stones

The reredos in the north aisle at St Andrew's, Barnwell is a fascinating piece of sculpture. Two slim ogee arches sit either side of a wider one, the cusps covered in carvings of foliage with a frieze of very cheery heads above the finials. (insensitive wiring of the day.. ) #WallsonWednesday

Foliage as tracery in the choir stalls at Southwell Minster. Carved in 1886 by C.H.Simpson they show a wide variety of flora, fauna and animals and are a real testament to his skill as a wood carver. #TraceryTuesday

A couple of rather disturbing whales at the head and feet of Richard Whalley d1583 at St Wilfrid's, Screveton. One suspects that the sculptor of this very fine alabaster might never have actually seen a whale.. #MonumentsMonday

Richard Whalley d1583 was a very busy man indeed. A politician and important at the Royal Court. However he found time to marry three times and fathered 25 children! His fine alabaster tomb is now sadly relegated to the base of the tower at St Wilfrid's, Screveton. #MonumentsMonday
