Getting back to the new ‘normal’ without Jake. I’m lucky it’s summer, as I don’t know what I’ll do without my best leader come fall. It’s been over a month and yet it feels like just yesterday Jake was prancing around the yard.

I wanted to update here that Jake passed suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday. I am devastated and beyond any words. Trying to shrink down his life to a limited character count is just insurmountable right now. I have a long winded post on my personal page (TJ Squires) for those who want.

The dogs got an ‘A+’ for their unplanned fire drill today. A brush fire right across the street got out of hand, only a few hundred feet from the dog yard. While the fire stayed across the road, the smoke got bad so I evacuated the dogs. We are all safe, and the fire has been put out.
Ezio is on a diet. Ezio is a bit of an Orbzio. No more licking the food buckets clean. No more dad snacks. Ezio says he needs a representative to help fight this atrocious case. #uglydogs #diet #weightlossjourney

I put up new lights in the dog yard. I only bought 2 strings, I want to see how long they last before investing in the whole yard. They supposedly can withstand rain, wind, snow, freezing temps… so we shall see. The dog yard is becoming a cozy little spot! #alaskanhusky #homeimprovements #uglydogs
Are spring blues a thing?? No snow for sled, too warm for ATV runs, too muddy with feet of odd piles of snow for hiking… I have so many projects that I can’t touch until the ground is thawed. I fear I am ready for summer.
Building trust with dogs takes time. But when there is trust on both ends, then, and only then, can a true relationship start to form.

This was a 4 dog team of Alaskan Cookies…. But we had to drop (eat) one.
Weekend adventures. I scouted out a good winter camp spot. We’ll probably lose the snow before I have the chance to camp, but I’m excited for next year! I dropped the dogs on their gangline but Dovah instantly took to chewing, so I’ll have to look into getting a cable drop line.
It’s ‘official.’ Queso and Cookie aren’t going anywhere. They’re officially here to stay! To celebrate, here are some puppy photos of the two (plus Cast) from Ashley (Lost Lake Racing)! Fun fact, this was a litter of only 3 pups. So the whole gang’s here!
What do YOU do on your work break? Cookie takes a dive for what little snow we have left, and gets a full body cool down.
We are in a weird inbetween phase where there’s not enough snow for sleds but it’s still too icy in most spots for ATV. The backyard is still knee deep snow while the front is all grass. I just want to be active with dogs but the WEATHER 🥲 Queso for tax being a Good Boy
