I was not raised with the mantra that you have to work twice as hard etc but my mom was very big on you are my child and there are standards for how you operate. And for me that worked well because it was more about how we present ourselves is based on our values and not the worlds.
I only had one living grandparent so getting to see my nieces interact with 4 grandparents is such a blessing.
There is no harm in asking kids to step it up in dress. None at all. No kid is harmed in that process. Same way no kid is harmed in being taught manners. You were exposed. You know now. If you already knew you remain unharmed.
