We are a colour ringed population of mute swans in Cheshire, UK Sign up to the App to report sightings of us: https://forms.office.com/e/MrQbTpe9pF Donate to ring costs: https://epay.keele.ac.uk/donations (select Cheshire Swan Project)
Sadly, the same also goes for Mute Swans, with mortality now reported from both @lincolnswans.bsky.social and @cheshireswans.bsky.social. If you feel comfortable to do so, please do check for rings and report them. This provides invaluable data for wildlife disease research.
We're now starting to get reports of dead Whooper Swans with rings. If you find a dead bird & feel comfortable doing so - check for rings using the below @btobirds.bsky.social advice 👇🏻 Collecting information on ringed birds helps better understand the impact on different age groups.
Over the next 2 months you'll see swan pairs on nests. If photographing a nest please keep a safe distance to avoid disturbing the swans. Please also be careful if you choose to share the photo on social media, avoid providing a location. We are looking forward to the arrival of this year's cygnets!
