Ok finished birds & rabbit, let wildflowers grow, then thought: "corner's empty". So in lieu of birds, added a spider who's just finished eating and going to rest. Not sure if I over did it ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ oh well! I think I'll call this series *Urbs Circumdata In Horto* โคต๏ธ #invertebrates #Arachtober

An acrylic painting, 20"x16" (51cmx41cm): there'sa compass plant taking up most of the left half of the canvas, in the center and in the distance is the city of Chicago with colorful buildings, green trees at their foot. Lake Michigan divided the painting and the bottom halsifo wildflower prairie. There are 3 Barn Swallows flying through the summer scene. One is hunting a bee. There's a rabbit munching on some leaves at the walking path. A third bee is having a meal on a purple flower. In the upper right corner, an Orb Weaver spider has just finished a meal from one of the 2 insects wrapped in white web. It's now walking back to the flowers for a little nap. A close up of the corner of the painting, showing the spider and its little markings and colors.

I brought the painting back out to work on it and finish it. I decided to include a couple little barn swallows flying through the prairie above the wildflowers. ๐Ÿชถ #SciArt #BirdArt #Animalllustration #WildlifeIllustration

I'm in the middle of painting a scene from Chicago's bird sanctuary in #acrylics #WIP with a ๐Ÿ on a ๐ŸŒป. I'm looking through my photos and deciding on birds. Chicagoans: What #Chicago birds should I include?

WIP of an Acrylic painting of summer in Chicago from the lake shore. The city is in the far distance, the lake in front of it and the foreground is filled with grassland, wildflowers and a close up of a compass plant with a shiny bee getting a meal

I came randomly across an image of an African Gemsbok (Oryx) and sketched it, not knowing that it's now a resident of several SW states (NM | TX) and can be hunted because of uncontrolled population! I had no idea this was happening!!! ๐Ÿคฏ

Scanned yellowish page of a sketchbook with a mechanical pencil illustration of a Gemsbok (also called an Oryx). There's a mountain in the background, some scrub land in front of that with a small tree to the left and a larger tree on the right edge ... and then some desert grassland with rocks and rubble all around on which is standing an Oryx looking at the viewer with its tail rustling in the dry wind. In the left bottom corner of the paper is the following hand drawn text: Gemsbok; South African Oryx; Oryx Gazella; ๐Ÿ”ฅLarge Antelope (Oryx), powerful, muscular; ๐Ÿ—บ Deserts of Frica & Arabian Peninsula & SW USA; ๐Ÿ“shoulder: 54" (138cm); chicagoseb

Accidental Macro Monday Photography! I took a pic of the flower and there was a tiny spider that I didn't see until after I got home to check my photos! Also, I took pics of some other flowers and there seemed to be a Varroa destructor on one. Does anyone know if it is, in fact, a bee mite? #SciArt

Two yellow flowers, one in focus. There is a teenie tiny small, very light gray spider on one of the petals. So cute! ๐ŸฅบA bunch of wild flowers with what looks like a dark mite on one of them, waiting to parasitize a bee. You can make out my reflection!A close up of the mite and my reflection on its body!

I don't do quizzes, but as a polyglot I couldn't resist. Grew up in Chicago, lived over a decade in Orlando and almost a decade in Tokyo hanging out with Brits, then back again to Chicago. Coupled with film buffery & tv buffoonery and apparently I'm very Chicago and half Southern Cali.

A map of my dialect avoiding to Harvard's AI... Red in Chicago/Milwaukee, some reddish around central southern California and beautiful blue for the southern states.
