Making sure the Sun doesn't explode, one Nubby at a time. Not the developer of Nubby's Number Factory.

No small part of what I look forward to after the fall of OpenAI is the end of this slopaganda. It's little more than ragebait and it permanently damages my opinion about any institution craven enough to publish it.

Researchers working with the A.I. system Claude have come to understand that the model’s selfhood, like our own, is a matter of both neurons and narratives. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/kEX1vV

Bonus bit: because you don't have your own desk, it's quite likely that you don't even work near your team even if you're in the same building! If you wanted downtown Ottawa to not suck, getting rid of the $20 Sysco "lunch" slingers that prey on civil servants would be a great start.

Two things I’m not sure is widely understood: 1. Many public servants no longer have their own desks and work in transient government co-working spaces 2. Many describe a Kafkaesque existence of going to physical offices only to spend their time on video calls with the people sitting next to them

The sans culottes in the United States are beginning to realize that they don't need the liberal nobility to push for needed reform. Schumer, like Lafayette before him, will fail to meet the moment and quite likely be brushed aside. The liberal nobles' offer is no longer acceptable.

Now that Bluesky has enjoyed something for a full couple of hours of course it's time to go back into doom mode. "The Democrats will cave like they always do"? Guys, the Democrats *were* caving, until the people of Minnesota stopped them. It's not up to the Democrats anymore. That's the whole point.

Canada has always been a master of marketing. We're so good at lying to ourselves that we've transformed Merrie Canada into an (Anglo) national identity. The problem is that this starry-eyed branding makes reform challenging and expressing our troubles internationally almost impossible.

According to this ranking, Canada’s reputation has improved since 2024. We are now the 2nd most reputable country in the world. The United States has dropped from 30th to 48th in that same year, the biggest drop of any nation BY FAR. Its reputation-peers are now Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan…

List of countries with the best reputation, showing change between 2024 and 2025.

Ronald Reagan was a monster who inflicted decades of suffering on the world. He was a conman and a liar. His regime is topped only by Trump's and Andrew Johnson's in terms of damage caused to the Union. Democrats need to keep Reagan in the cold, wet ground where he belongs.

The presidency once served as a reminder of our common humanity. Ronald Reagan described its purpose as building "a nation composed of good and decent people."

If you hoard, say, Nintendo Power magazines such that you can no longer navigate your living space, you are considered unwell and in need of treatment. If you hoard money, you're seen as a paragon of virtue and someone who needs to be taken seriously. Make it make sense (impossible challenge).

If you make a billion dollars — or $500 million or even $100 million dollars — and you keep trying to make more, then there is something seriously wrong with you. It's a mental illness akin to hoarding or drug addiction.
