The cycle continues: draft rules, "this will be great!", playtest, "this is terrible!", draft rules, "this will be great!" etc forever and ever 😂😭 (This time's different though! It will be great!)

Our This Means War game last night was hot hot hot! Spotlight rounds are a ton of fun - we all do scenes about one character, using simple secondary characters to great effect. Marc's patriotic professor mixed university politics with war politics and totally disillusion'ed his star pupil.

Unboxing challenge: I'm looking for more GMless games that you can play together without any reading in advance. Games you can just pick up and follow the instructions cold Show me what you got!

Children are great because they can help you see things in a whole new way. Like how my 7yo just told me he thought Lord of the Rings is probably about Bilbo trying to get a bunch of rings.

After it had been sitting in our 'to play' pile for 13 years, we finally played Happy Birthday Robot! It was just waiting for us to have a kid, and for that kid to be ready to have the restraint to only make one butt joke 😊

Happy Birthday Robot, a storytelling game. Dice, coins, and a handwritten story.

My 7yo picked up a Downfall book and had a whole stream of consciousness about the title and the cover image. "Downfall. Woah, why is it in the sky? That seems like a bad idea. Pieces of it are falling off. Oh falling dowwwn. Down Fallllll. That is Not Safe. Why is it falling? Have you read it?" 😂

In our Downfall game last night we had the joy of getting to call for a consequence in the very first scene. Sure, the Hero can get that promotion she's been chasing, but oh no looks like Ms. Giant Wrench is getting leapfrogged out of engineering directly into a management job.

doooods, hear me out: Polaris, but the Mistake is AI… (cuz yeah, people all over society pull their scooby doo masks off and push that slop)

Marc and I are trying to get more into the habit of doing play write-ups like in the olden days of the Story Games Seattle Meetup, if for no other reason than it's fun to look back on them years later. Here's one @thehintguy.bsky.social did for a playtest of my current project - Entanglement!

“Now if you’ll excuse me… I have to go do a group project.” - Val, Tiger, and Riyuji’s consistent excuse for ditching Venetia over and over.

My parents apparently saved my 1998 Furby, and we have now unleashed it upon our kid to his great delight. I had completely forgotten that according to the tag, Furby can SEE INTO THE FUTURE, so I blame it for all of this *gestures wildly*.

I finally did a writeup for one of the Downfall games I played last year! We did something *weird* and explored two different cultures in the same broad setting, with the same Flaw. River hobbits and dirty horses warriors! One ended in disapproving gossip and the other in a bloodbath - such stakes!

One of the things I enjoy most about longer-form Downfall games is the ability to let things simmer, explore relationships outside of the Hero, and get into the heart of what different voices in the s...

Yesterday was a really productive day for the Less Than Three Games team! We both ran playtests for our works-in-progress and got some very valuable insights 🥳 Plus we made some sexy vampires (in my game) and some bog monsters (in Marc's game)!
