Watched CHUKA (1967) a gunslinger and a stagecoach of randoms find themselves under siege from Indians in a cavalry post. The story is very ho-hum and it's not helped by the copious use of studio sets. That said, the cast for this is wild. We've got the Australian Rod Taylor...

Hey, film fans. my list of films with an exploding helicopter currently stands at 9️⃣6️⃣2️⃣. I just need another 3️⃣8️⃣films and I'll have got to a 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣. I don't know why getting to that number feels important, but after 18 years counting films with chopper fireballs it just does. boxd.it/4sxw

Films with exploding helicopters

A film is always improved by a helicopter explosion. And they blow up in films more frequently than you might think, and in ways you never imagined. So, here are all the films I've found with at least...

Watched TURBULENCE (2025) a *ahem* high concept thriller that's essentially 'Basic Instinct in a hot air balloon'. The plot is thinner than the air they're flying in, but there's just enough invention to keep the film airborne. Exploding Helicopter fave, Olga Kurylenko, has the Glenn Close role.

Watched TWO MEN IN TOWN (1973) Delon a newly released con trying to go straight who's harassed by the cop who previously brought him down. This condemnation of the French legal system was written and directed by Jose Giovanni who spent time in prison for murder. Delon and Gabin are superb.

Watched MISDIRECTION (2026). These are tough times for Olga Kurylenko fans. The string of recent duds gets longer and we can add this lamentable home invasion offering to the list. The plot's 'twists' aren't interesting and the whole thing is filmed in a stygian gloom. Even at 80m it feels long.

Just attempted to watch GOMORRAH: THE ORIGINS. I was a huge fan of Gomorrah, so was psyched to watch this. Unfortunately, it's only available in the UK as an English dub, and that dub is horrendous. It's so bad, I had to abandon it after five minutes. Sky, what have you done?

Watched PAYDAY (1973) where Rip Torn plays a narcissistic country music artist whose life on the road spins out of control amid pills, booze, and sex. It's a fantastic performance. He creates a true monster who casually uses, abuses, discards, and suborns everyone around him.

Watched THE SON OF MONTE CRISTO (1940) an enjoyably lively swashbuckler. George Sanders is great as the moustache-twizzling villain, and Joan Bennett is gorgeous as the damsel-in-distress. The only blackspot is Louis Hayward's hero. He's appropriately energetic, but lacking in charisma.

Watched THE DEVIL'S BRIGADE (1968) a Dirty Dozen clone with William Holden whipping a rag tag group of criminals [and Canadians] into shape. It's very good, but is very much in the second tier of the WW2 men-on-a-mission movies that proliferated in the Sixties.
