It looks like we're simply going to have a long game of parties discussing how committed they are to retaining oil and gas jobs without meaningful action. They won't stop closures. They didn't when they could have before, including when the Tories were in power from 2010-24.

Tragic news of the death of Argentinian scholar Juan Iñigo Carrera, one of the world's most brilliant critics of political economy. JIC taught 'Capital' to generations of students, using Marx to help us understand the historicity of scientific knowledge and the necessity of our own action.
Britain faces a grave energy crisis which neither the right or left is prepared for. I’ve written for the Guardian on why decades of complacency cannot be magicked away by drilling in the North Sea – or by hoping renewables will quickly power everything.
Both left and right are deluding themselves about the scale of the energy crisis Britain faces | Ewan Gibbs

Kløften mellem venstrefløjen og arbejderklassen gør modstanden mod grøn energi til en vindersag

I'm in today's Times writing on the closure of Grangemouth oil refinery with @riyokoshibe.bsky.social. The workers we spoke to in our research want to be part of a green manufacturing future and deserve better. Grangemouth is the posterchild for the UK's wasteful and unjust energy transition.
I wrote a thing! 'Sustainable aviation' requires a radical rethink of our relation to flying, it won't be achieved through faith in technological innovation. As long as the industry is rooted in logics of growth and profit emissions will rise not fall. bsky.app/profile/uk.t...
