The Little Orphan Annie comic strip made its first official appearance on August 5, 1924, in the New York Daily News and via the Chicago Tribune Syndicate. Harold Gray wrote and drew the daily strip inspired by the 1885 poem "Little Orphant Annie" by James Whitcomb Riley.
