U.S. Border Patrol wants a contractor to track down deported people abroad and collect their immigration fines Another outrageous thing our gov. is trying to do to immigrants. These people never had due process, so no court has ever declared they must pay fines. open.substack.com/pub/projects...

U.S. Border Patrol wants a contractor to track down deported people abroad and collect their immigration fines

The agency gave bidders three business days to compete for a first-of-its-kind contract to collect fines from people it has deported to Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala.

They made kids afraid of America This is horrific! Why is no one helping these children? Why are local municipalities/states w/detention centers not suing the pants off of ICE & the Feds? Surely, there's something that can be done to stop these atrocities. open.substack.com/pub/stevesch...

Today's NYT - "In Dropping Reflecting Pool Case, Pirro Draws Trump’s Wrath," makes me ask why attys. work for him. To file bogus charges/cases they lose or are thrown out? How will working in the admin. lead to a positive post-Trump career, esp. when they risk their law licenses doing his bidding.

Zohran Mamdani Is Open to Reparations for Slavery I support this 100%. After the Civil War, slaves rec'd freedom & constitutional rights, but no property or capital. White Southerners rec'd pardons, restored citizenship, returned land & the opp. to rebld while keeping most of the region’s wealth.

The US is now on the International Trade Union Confederation's list for systematic violations of workers’ rights. 150+ countries are evaluated on 97 indicators drawn from international labor standards. The U.S. now sits alongside Guinea-Bissau, Israel, Liberia, Moldova, the Philippines & Zimbabwe.

I just read Ross Douhat from the NYT is joining "60 Minutes," "along with some other journalists." I would have thought it would be hard to get any reputable journalists to join "60 Minutes" at this time.

Commit to Vote. I just did. MAGA extremists are raising costs and making our communities less safe for hardworking families. That’s why I just committed to voting them OUT this November. Join me by committing to vote in this year’s upcoming elections:https://bit.ly/4t4qZLy@Everytown

Didn't the Senate pass the War Powers Act to demand an end to the war w/Iran? I thought so, but looked it up:"The Senate passed a nonbinding concurrent war powers resolution regarding Iran on June 23, by a 50–48 vote, but rejected a subsequent legally binding resolution on July 23, by a 49–47 vote."

Sign the petition now demanding DHS fire and press criminal charges against David Brouillette, and hold ICE accountable for its pattern of deadly violence! I just signed this - it pertains to the ICE agent who killed a man in Maine. sign.moveon.org/petitions/ic...

These numbers from Politico do not bode well for Dems in the mid-terms unless something happens soon. Republican National Committee reported roughly $128 million in cash on hand w/no debt. Democratic National Committee reported about $16 million in cash on hand while carrying $18 million in debt.

Rick Smith of the The Lincoln Project said something yesterday which captured the truth of today's elected Republicans. He said if they can stand by & allow Trump to take a wrecking ball to our country & our democracy, then everything they've ever said all these years was nothing but marketing copy.

Is anyone else feeling totally maxed out on Trump? I am. I read/listen/watch Heather Cox Richardson, Jim Acosta, Terry Moran, Adam Klasfeld, Adam Kinzinger, David Pakmann, Andrew Weismann & more. I'm worn out hearing almost daily this or that will spell the end of Trump & yet here we are. :(
