Why do seeds delay germination? Fernández-Pascual et al show it is more common in cold- and wet-adapted species and less common in disturbance-adapted ones, suggesting a strategy for coping with stress during regeneration.

Alpine germination strategies differ across climates. Espinosa del Alba et al show Mediterranean alpine species germinate more during cold stratification than temperate ones, suggesting reduced snow and warming may reshape plant recruitment patterns.

I'm very proud and happy to share that I have succesfully defended my PhD thesis "The seed regeneration niche in alpine communities". After almost five years of hard work, long field seasons, and an incredibly enriching experience, this chapter comes to an end.
Last PhD paper alert! Just published in Journal of Vegetation Science (doi: 10.1111/jvs.70134), we studied four germination cues across 56 species from Mediterranean and temperate alpine habitats to investigate if germination responses differ in a climatically heterogeneous region. (1/5)
