This is what a statement on "the events in the Middle East" should look like. International law is a core principle of the EU treaties, but the EU leadership is abandoning it. What the US and Israel have done is ILLEGAL. Say it!!!

European gas prices were up by 25% this morning after 48 hours of the US and Israel's demonic, idiotic war on Iran - a war Micheâl Martin and Helen McEntee can't bring themselves to condemn.

Indeed, except it goes far beyond embarrassment. It is disgraceful and dangerous, and our government should be clearly stating to the international community its outright dissent from this moral and legal morass.

Ireland's international obligations as regards the US/Israeli attack on Iran are clear. Among them are: a) not to recognise as lawful a situation created by a serious breach of international law. A war of aggression is the paramount example of a serious breach.

I am deeply concerned by developments in Iran and the real potential that exists for escalation and wider conflict in the region. I strongly urge all parties to exercise restraint and to work to avoid that outcome.

The Triple Lock protects Ireland's neutrality. FFG wants to remove it. DCC will vote tomorrow on a motion supporting the Triple Lock and opposing the FFG's plans. 📢 Rally outside DCC tomorrow, Monday 2nd, 5-7pm, to show support for this motion, and to urge Cllrs to preserve and defend neutrality!
