I remember when the Dauphiné did pretty much this route in 2017. I was there and rode the Sarenne and Alpe d'Huez that day. The Sarenne is absolutely brutal on tight roads in beautiful surroundings. I like this banning fans from delicate ecosystems. They are extremely important to preserve.

Getting people out of cars requires more than just exposed street racks. Cities can easily transform vacant commercial spaces into sheltered, staffed bike parking hubs. Safe parking is exactly what the curious but cautious need to finally start riding.
