Have you heard of EPS? 🥤 It's a type of rigid plastic foam (often referred to as Styrofoam, which is a trademarked name by Dow Chemical Co.) that never biodegrades, despite the fact that it easily breaks into millions of tiny polluting pieces over time. 👎

June 6-14th is Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week! 🦀 The Chesapeake Bay is North America’s largest, and the world’s third largest estuary (where salt and fresh water mix). We live in the Bay's watershed, so our local waterways' health connects to the Chesapeake Bay's health.💧

Today is International Zero Waste Day! 🙌 The UN's theme for this year is Zero Waste Starts on Your Plate. 🍽️ ❗️ Nearly one-fifth of all food available to consumers is wasted each year. What can we do about food waste? 🧵

Some reminders for Winter Salt Week: ❄️ A 12oz mug of salt spread out is enough for ~10 sidewalk squares or a 20 foot driveway. ❄️Salt is not effective at melting ice below 15°. ❄️It's a good idea to sweep up leftover salt to use later and keep it out of our streams!
