The Judicial Branch (below SCOTUS) is holding the line so far, but the courts aren’t designed for speed. They can only hear the cases that come before them, & can only go so fast w/o risking reversals by hasty (whether real or perceived) judgment. The Legislature is designed to stop a rogue Exec.

Fed. judge holds DHS in civil contempt of court for refusing "intentionally and not in good faith" to provide plaintiffs with phone images they intend to use to prove DHS was racially profiling people arrested in Los Angeles without reasonable suspicion. Order from July 28, unsealed today.

B. Defendants’ Noncompliance Is Intentional And Not In Good Faith. Having found that Defendants are in violation of the January 16 Forensic Imaging Order, the burden now shifts to Defendants to show that they were unable to comply. Affordable Media, 179 F.3d at 1239 (9th Cir. 1999). They fail to make that showing. Upon review of the parties’ submissions and counsel’s representations at the hearing, it does not appear that Defendants’ noncompliance is due to an inability to comply. Instead, the clear and convincing evidence shows that Defendants have acted intentionally and not in good faith.

I’m relatively new here, but not new to socmed. I keep hearing how Bluesky is some sort of bastion for liberals. My observation os that, no, it’s mostly just a place where normal people can hang out & talk civilly (mostly) about things even if they have different opinions & perspectives.

It occurs to me we use the word “influencer” when we may mean “leader,” but by doing so allow ourselves to think, feel, & believe someone is good at it when they’re really not. Which is to say, “influencer” & “leader” are not synonyms. We know, because we expect different things of them.

He is an @$$hole. I mean this as an accurate term of analysis, not judgment, as defined by Aaron James, PhD, in his academically rigorous book, “@$$holes: A Theory.” Using accurate descriptors is important. It’s not my fault if the term is widely recognized as pejorative.

Philosophically, forgiving someone is about not allowing ourselves to hate. Forgiving someone of wrongdoing does not mean the person we forgave is no longer responsible for their actions. For the harm they have done to others. We can forgive someone & still hold them accountable for their actions.

He is an absolute idiot. I use that as a term of analysis, not judgment. If a label is accurate, it’s not my fault if it’s widely recognized as negative. And he makes sense to far too many people. “They talk for seven hours, they should solve it in five minutes…” Barnum was right.

After so many events that should have been breaking points (starting w/ “Grab ‘em by the…”), Phang’s case feels like it may have teeth. Still a matter of the inertia of the legal system vs. the momentum of fascist takeover, which we saw w/ his 2d suspect election to office, but: fingers x’d.

We would do well to think of those numbers as dangerously high rather than historically low. Context matters & the context is totalitarian takeover of the nation. The fascists are exposed, entrenched, have everything to lose, & don’t intend to cede power. None of this will end soon or easy.

Freedom is such a fascinating thing. Take Denver, for example. Some people are exercising their Freedom to water their lawns during a draught while others are exercising their Freedom to turn those people in because they’d prefer to not run out of water for things like, say, drinking & sanitation…
