Yesterday, CDA lawyer Kudra represented Daisy in the Casino Local Court. In March, Daisy locked herself on to a bulldozer in Cherry Tree State Forest to protest against native forest logging. Daisy initially faced two charges and a maximum penalty of prison time.

A court ruling in October 2025 changed what peaceful assembly means in NSW. Commissioner of Police v Naser found that attending a protest subject to a prohibition order could put you in contempt of court — even if you weren't involved in organising it.

Meet our Executive Director, Julia Grix! Julia is an award-winning lawyer and Fulbright scholar with over 25 years experience advancing social justice and human rights through academic, government and community legal organisations.
We principally work in the areas of criminal law, administrative and constitutional law, tort law, anti-discrimination and human rights law.
While we are a very new organisation, having just opened our doors on July 1 – we’re building on a solid foundation, including representing over 350 individuals and groups, to successfully challenging oppressive bail conditions in 98 separate cases over 15 years.
