For the 0-2 followers here who have ever wondered what the ridge traverse segment between The Ramp and Mt. Williwaw is like, here is my trip report from Sat. It is 2.5 km of Class 3/4 gendarmes on top of the ridge for 2 hours, or a 3-hour, side-hilling suffer-fest below the ridge. 0 out of 5 stars.

The latest 3-month Relative Oceanic Nino Index (RONI) is +1.0C. Note that it now uses ERSSTv6 starting this month.
Looking at the Geographic Names Information Database (GNIS), the top 5 types of "Stream" feature suffixes in Alaska are: Creek (7570), River (1293), Slough (238), Fork (58), and Pup (38). Apparently, "Pup" was a suffix assigned to some "baby" stream segments by placer miners. @alaskawx.bsky.social
August is the least wind month of the year for a large majority of the Contiguous U.S.
Three more moose today. Momma and two babies. These are different than the momma with a single calf I saw yesterday. I'm no statistician, but it appears that I'm on pace to see 77.5 moose this month.

July 2026 was the second warmest July on record for the Contiguous U.S. It finished slightly warmer than July 2012 and slightly cooler than July 1936. As a reminder 1936 was an overall cool year. 🔥
