Birder and moth-er, Derbyshire.

A good set of micros too. Epermenia falciformis is nfg, and there aren't too many records in VC57. Also Scrobipalpa ocellatella nfy, Cochylis molliculana nfy, N dubitana 4, C atricapitana, C pomonella, P pterodactyla, Y sequella, and a record 20 E monodactyla. #TeamMoth

I trapped 2 Ypsolopha sequella last night. Both were very dark and I was wondering if there is a dark form or if it's just wear? The pics aren't great but... #TeamMoth Moth 1 in first 2 pics, moth 2 in the others. Moth 2 had a white apex too.

I spent an age trying to get this to open its wings as I was sure I saw a Twin-spot Carpet in the trap 🤔 There were 2 so maybe I potted the wrong one 🧐🥴😴

Red Twin-spot Carpet

Lots of micros last night: Achroia grisella, Zelleria hepariella, Mompha propinquella, Acleris forsskaleana, 2 very grey Ypsolopha sequella, Neocochylis dubitana amongst the best. #TeamMoth

In a sleep deprived state the last thing I needed was the most uncooperative set of moths ever (or maybe it just seemed that way). Around 207/69 including (and finally) nfg Maple Pug. #TeamMoth

A decent night in good conditions here in Cromford. Around 169/62 with some good micros, which I probably haven't got time to post yet. Dewick's Plusia, SMW, Square-spot Rustic (nfy), Lime-speck Pug 2 (garden yr tick) takes me over 400 species for the garden this year. #TeamMoth

An afternoon wander through Gang Mine and Dene Quarry. Scorched vegetation isn't proving good for moth hunting, but the star find was the tiny Mompha miscella (Rock-rose Mompha). My record to light last year was the first since 2011 in VC57. #TeamMoth Pity the pics aren't great 😮‍💨

You know how sometimes conditions look crap but you run anyway and get something good? This was not one of those occasions 😐 Straw Underwing, Chinese Character, Cochylichroa atricapitana, Plutella porrectella. 31/16 #TeamMoth

Chalk Carpet was the best moth last night amongst 50 odd species. I probably get 1 every other year or so, but it's obviously present on the local grassland. #TeamMoth A possible Small Mottled Willow at last but very battered 😬. Second gen Waved Umber, Pale Prominent, Tawny Speckled Pug etc.

A few decent micros included an apparent hatch of 2nd gen Neocochylis dubitana (4). Nomophila noctuella, Aspilapteryx tringipenella 4, Agapeta zoegana, Cochylichroa atricapitana, Mompha propinquella etc #TeamMoth

50+ species, but I expected better. Maybe the breeze didn't help 🤔 I reckon this is ok for Garden Dart but it's not the clearest specimen. Small Rufous 2, Lychnis 3, Scorched Carpet, Y-b Brindle, Blood-vein, Gold Spot, Ruby Tiger 4. Micros to follow. #TeamMoth

Better than expected on a clear and breezy night at Middleton with around 101/43. More surprising was a Northern Spinach (nfy) that posed for the camera 😮. Rosy Minor 2 and Straw Underwing 2 both nfy. #TeamMoth

A few decent micros from last night #TeamMoth Also: Nomophila noctuella, Aspilapteryx tringipenella, Plutella xylostella, Acompsia cinerella, Mompha propinquella. Big numbers of Patania ruralis 54, and Blastobasis adustella 35.
