It pains me that I’ve never seen Mohenjo-Daro. Someday….
Mohenjo-Daro was a major city of the Indus Valley Civilisation (c. 2600–1900 BC). As housing grew and the city expanded, inequality appears to have declined, indicating Mohenjo-Daro prospered as an example of egalitarian urbanism. 🆓 doi.org/10.15184/aqy... 🏺 #Archaeology

Yes I bought a greenhouse so I can have decent pickles in England. (And padrons, tomatoes and figs) ⭐️Priorities⭐️
This is an absolutely fascinating look into the wild wild west of billionaire fossil collection & fabrication.
I guarantee this will be the weirdest story you hear today. And you know what? It's even weirder than what is published. Take it from me...a T. rex will bite you. They make people do weird things. www.bloomberg.com/features/202...
I don’t know who needs to hear this but if you have a lot of cake left over from a birthday or whatever, cut it into slices and put them on a tray in the freezer. Once they are cold enough then you can bag them and they won’t stick together. Eat a frozen slice on a hot day. 🍰
I wonder if: 1) Academic archaeologists get the weirdest emails out of all the various flavours of academia and 2) What kind of archaeologist gets the weirdest ones. I know I've gotten some odd stuff from being henge-adjacent but it's certainly not the only genre of strange out there.
Huge congratulations to @lucymoore.bsky.social @uoyarchaeology.bsky.social who recently won a @wikimediauk.bsky.social Silver Jubilee Award 🏆🎉 Read our case study on Lucy's work towards improving the representation of the lives and achievements of women on Wikipedia: uoy.atlassian.net/wiki/x/jgAJCQ

I'd love to speak to a Pueblo archeologist or a Pueblo person who can comment on the proposed mineral leases in Chaco Canyon and the tremendous damage that will result.
Writing about NPCs in digital archaeological reconstructions for the first time since 2009 (!)
I'm very happy to have been awarded a grant from the Council for British Research in the Levant for the project: "Gaza on the Shelf." In cooperation with Dr Mazen Iwaisi we are coordinating a team of scholars to examine, digitise, and archive the diasporic Palestinian collections in the UK. 🍉
I'm getting r/t for this, and that's great, as this initiative is fantastic and my daughter has participated in events they've organised. But I also want to acknowledge that it was a moment of woman-splaining to one of the founders 😅 and you should totally follow her: @susannahwalker.bsky.social
Perhaps of interest, Make Space for Girls is a York initiative to make playgrounds more inclusive for older girls: letsmakespace.org/make-space-y...
I'm sure it's a quirk of pedigree but I really thought that we did not focus on the kings and rulers in historical archaeology because there's, y'know, stuff written about them. Archaeology used to study historical monarchy just works to amplify power structures and hierarchy. 🏺

Listening to Frank's Wild Years by Tom Waits and it's 1988 and I'm driving from Moscow, Idaho to Portland, Oregon, hallucinating lightly after a long night with my dear, dead friend Boyd. Never drive a car when you're dead, Boyd. Oh my goodness how music drives memory, now drive my car for me.
HUGE congratulations to the superstar @owenexiehurcum.com for this fantastic achievement!
Really delighted to say that our article critiquing the Cass Review from Archaeological, Historical, Mythological, and Heresiological perspectives has been published in the Bulletin of Applied Transgender Studies. You can freely read it below 👇 bulletin.appliedtransstudies.org/article/5/1-...
Well done Daan! Who knew there's a whole group of historians working on rats & mice?
I had a wonderful opportunity to talk briefly about @archaeorattus.bsky.social at the IMC in Leeds last week with fellow ratty and mousey historians! Thanks so much to Sven Gins and Alice Choyke for the invitation (photo: Sven Gins)

Always include money for a research assistant (in addition to any postdocs or PhDs) and at least one artist in all your research grants. Take what you think it will cost and double it. It's consistently what has made the difference in my projects. Happy Friday!

Do we brace for more downsizing, or even course cuts in UK academic archaeology, with a potential impact on the supply of future Archaeologists entering a profession which is central to development & still over 90% graduate? Overall a culturally and strategicly illiterate #BonfireOfTheHumanities
