Computational Machinery of Cognition (CMC) lab focuses on understanding the computational and neural machinery of goal-driven behavior | PI: @neuroprinciplist.bsky.social | https://shervinsafavi.github.io/cmclab/

I'm very excited to present a poster (C-18, Wednesday 9:30) at #CCN2026, describing neural signatures of internal decision-making in the monkey vlPFC. If you want to learn more about how sensory value influences percept selection, come check it out!

I’ll be leading a hands-on workshop on fastDSA, where we’ll explore scalable dynamical similarity analysis for neural and artificial systems. Curious about fastDSA, Check the short introduction here: bsky.app/profile/arma... #IMPRSCoNI #SummerSchool #Neuroscience #ComputationalNeuroscience

To do this, we develop data-driven, species-specific models by integrating: 💻 🤖 computational methods (RL, dynamical systems, AI) & 🪱🐟🐀🐒👤 behavioral & neural data (from nematodes to primates) to uncover shared or species-specific mechanisms of natural adaptive decision-making.

Our main goal is to understand how animals learn the dynamics of their environment across different timescales and adapt their decisions accordingly. We study this in the context of foraging behavior, which allows us to link neural, behavioral, and environmental dynamics in naturalistic settings.

In our Learning Club @cmc-lab.bsky.social tomorrow (April 30, Thursday, 2pm CET), @tafazolisina.bsky.social will tell us about his recent @nature.com paper (👇). Want to attend? Send an empty email to virtual talk-link-request@cmclab.org to get the link!

Thrilled that my paper is out in the @nature.com. We explored how the brain builds complex tasks by compositionally combining simpler sub-task representations. The brain flexibly performs multiple tasks by dynamically reusing neural subspaces for sensory inputs and motor actions rdcu.be/eRVUk

Wanna infer causal interactions during brief, transient neural events? 🧠⚡ Many methods struggle with such non-stationarities, but we got a robust solution for you! 📦 My recent publication with @cmc-lab.bsky.social 🥳: TranCIT: Transient Causal Interaction Toolbox 📜 JOSS: bsky.app/profile/joss...
