The company behind Solovair made the original Doc Martens from 1960 to 1995 under license. The Solovair boots are essentially Docs but with a different sole, as the AirWair sole is trademarked. (The soles are very similar, but sufficiently different to avoid infringement on the trademark.)
Aaron Ross Powell@aaronrosspowell.com · 11h agoThe important thing to know about boots is that Dr. Martens was bought by a private equity firm a while back, the boots are now garbage in terms of construction quality, but Solovair set up to make similar boots on the old equipment in the old factory and their versions are much better quality.
