CNC-UC has joined a new international partnership to strengthen rare disease research. Funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), the project promotes international collaboration, researcher training and knowledge exchange to advance the understanding of rare diseases.

Researchers from CNC-UC and CiBB have identified molecular mechanisms through which BDNF promotes neuronal hyperexcitability in epilepsy. On World Brain Day, we're sharing this study, published in Brain, together with an illustration that visually explains the newly identified signalling pathway.

A collaborative study involving CiBB/CNC-UC, the University of Aveiro and the University of Beira Interior has identified a new role for the protein STEP in synapse formation, opening new avenues for therapies targeting Fragile X syndrome and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
