Senior software engineer. I write code, snap pics and vids from time to time, geek out over comic book movies and wear dope kicks.

I've been trying to decide between getting the digital or physical copy of Designing Data-Intensive Applications. I really wish the physical came with both because then it would be a no brainer.

My kids’ last day of school was yesterday so they are home with us today. First order of business for my son: Fall down the stairs, of course. Note: He’s perfectly fine. Tears. Hugs. And he’s back to asking to play PS5.

You may be reading that last thread and thinking “oh wow. That pot roast must be good. Doug…..share the code.” Yes. It is good. No. I will not. I’m gatekeeping this one, baby. Note how I never mentioned the restaurant's name? Find your own damn pot roast.

Two of my goals this year was to dive into cloud hosting and learn Golang. I’m proud to say I’ve started with GCP and have deployed my first Golang serverless function. Now you may be thinking that this was all inspired by my goals. Oh no my friend. It was fueled by me being a fatass.

I kinda want to get back to making a weekly video about something. It was a little therapeutic to put my ideas and thoughts into video form. And it was fun to make my friends characters in the skits. However it definitely was a time drain.

My kids play the rhyming game during meals. My son loves to replace the first letter with ‘s’. What rhymes with fit? Sit. What rhymes with map? Sap. What rhymes with bug? Sug. What rhymes with British? Shitish. Containing laughter is a must as a parent to prevent shitish from getting out of hand.

While in line at the movies I ask a younger couple (maybe mid-20s) if they were in line. This mafucka says to me “Yes sir. But you can go ahead” SIR?!? Who is the sir, you lil disrespectful shit! Call me bro. Twin. Buddy. Hell, call me mafucka. Anything but sir.

I will say this, being able to schedule when your car needs to be warm is a top tier luxury amenity. That is one thing I’m definitely gonna miss when I get out of this Tesla.
