Better breeding leveraging more biology
Climate change is creating increasingly severe and unpredictable conditions for agriculture, leading to diverse future scenarios. This poses a challenge for modern plant breeding, which has relied heavily on prediction models trained with past experimental data. These models predict the performance of existing and new genotypes across environments and have increased the effective size, scale, and speed of plant breeding programmes [1,2]. However, the diversity of production conditions is hindering reliable predictions of plant performance.
