The Profumo Affair happened 63 years ago but when you look at the events and how it was handled, it could have easily taken place in 2026.

In many ways, the affair feels strikingly modern now. A political elite insulated by privilege. Media systems driven by outrage and spectacle. National security rhetoric fused with celebrity scandal. Women simultaneously sexualized and condemned in public discourse. Institutions insisting everything remained under control while visibly failing to maintain authority.

home from a brief trip to see my mum...she'll be 80 next month and has really started to noticeably decline in her ability to keep up with living in the house on her own She is also super stubborn and refuses to even talk about downsizing. *sigh*
