I would like media to care more about the reality that tech tycoons want to kill people than what they’re imagining about AI wanting to kill people. We have multi-millionaires (with support from billionaires!) calling for ethnic cleansing, a thing that has happened in living memory. Not theoretical!

this is a good thread my only disagreement here is that i think that it's primarily an apocalyptic doomsday cult. the sex stuff is secondary to Yudkowsky wanting to be immortal that said, a lot of the sex stuff is really creepy in the worst way possible

I just can't. 😂😂😂 It seems like they don't understand how much they have in common. Maybe MAGA and effective altruists fight each other and they both lose. One can always dream, like the prayer I had during the Altman<>Muskrat spat.

Good thing we don’t have a long history of people incorrectly projecting human traits on computers and overestimating what they’re really doing.

In computer science, the ELIZA effect is a tendency to project human traits—such as experience, semantic comprehension or empathy—onto rudimentary computer programs. ELIZA was a symbolic AI chatbot developed in 1966 by Joseph Weizenbaum that imitated a psychotherapist. Many early users were supposedly convinced of ELIZA's intelligence and understanding, despite its basic text-processing approach and the explanations of its limitations.

every so often i get really depressed about how many people into HEMA i know and how historical African martial arts are effectively nonexistent everywhere in the US there’s one place in CA that teaches some African styles, but that’s it. no tournaments, no tutorials, nothing
