Another productive morning this weekend at the #AshdownForest site, with 29 new birds including the first Grasshopper Warbler and Great Spotted Woodpecker for the year!
A very successful morning with 30+ new birds caught yesterday on the #AshdownForest site, almost all juveniles. Including this young Chaffinch, a species rarely caught here.
The Nightjar season is going well with three birds already caught at the #AshdownForest site and a successful use of the new highflyer system!

A pretty good morning at the #AshdownForest site on the 20th, with the first Tree Pipit of the year and juvenile Redstart amoung the 19 birds caught over the course of the session.

On bank holiday Monday I got to go out with the Swale Ringing Group ringing wader chicks on Elmley Nature Reserve. Lapwings, Oystercatchers and Redshanks! Always great working with a passionate team!
A great time out at SWT Old Lodge Reserve this afternoon with the volunteers monitoring and ringing Redstart chicks from the new nestboxes! Then off to Woking to ring some Peregrine Falcons!
Also the nestboxes were sorted at the #AshdownForest site with two large broods of Blue Tits, two broods of Great Tits and a brood of Redstarts! 🐣
Must be bumper numbers of Cuckoo's on #AshdownForest this year or I'm having a very lucky time because today's makes 3 caught and ringed so far! A returning Redstart ringed last year was also a nice treat this morning ☺️👍.

Bit of a quality over quantity morning today with a early capture of a female cuckoo at the #AshdownForest site and onward to the #Gravetyeestate where a brood of three Tawny Owls were in one of the nestboxes monitored by the #SussexBarnOwlGroup.
Have absolutely loved this short time in the Cairngorms and I think the Caledonian Pine Forests have been the best part!
Achieved the elusive Crested Tit ✅ and Golden Eagle ✅ today whilst on numerous hikes in the highlands. An added bonus was a herd of Reindeer on the mountainside!

Another briefly sunny morning meant I could get out to the #AshdownForest site on Wednesday. Slightly busier morning than the last few sessions but only just! Highlights were a couple of Goldfinches and four Redwings still hanging on!
Finally a brief reprise from the rain meant I could get out to the #AshdownForest site this morning. Not much in the way of action, but a couple of nice birds were caught including a Dartford Warbler and another Reed Bunting!
