At this point, it is obvious that it is not safe for scholars to travel the US. There are no easy solutions for conferences scheduled in the US this year but it should be cleary to everyone involved that they cannot just go ahead as planned.
18. French scholar coming for conference 🇫🇷 Denied entry and deported for anti-Trump views expressed on social media. 🚨 HT @profpech.bsky.social
So expect no European attending conferences in US
If you are visiting the United States, having a negative view of Trump is enough to get you denied entry. If this was coming out of Russia or China, we would deplore such an authoritarian attack on freedom of expression.

Excellent new @us.theconversation.com piece by @dannagal.bsky.social (theconversation.com/how-populist...) led me to her new paper: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...: "Rejecting science, data, and evidence in favor of making sense of the world through intuition is the ultimate populist gesture"
How populist leaders like Trump use ‘common sense’ as an ideological weapon to undermine facts
When common sense is promoted as a virtue, it’s not just to celebrate how regular people understand the world. It promotes a worldview that rejects empirical facts and paves the way for propaganda.
