Paul Weiss once stood as a proud and noble law firm. Then it decided to capitulate to a wannabe dictator, and it could not stop capitulating. This is not about one law firm. It is a warning about what happens when institutions decide that accommodating authoritarianism is safer than confronting it.

How a Top Law Firm Went From Standing Up to Trump to Bending the Knee

Paul Weiss was a progressive stalwart for decades and led the legal resistance against President Trump in his first term. Then it surrendered without a fight. This is the inside story of its transform...

When I visited Adelanto earlier this year, I spoke with several of my constituents who said that the food was inedible, the conditions were filthy, and that detainees were always sick. Several specifically pointed to the unsanitary drinking water.

Nearly 6,000 people followed the rules and applied for pardons through the DOJ. Not one received a pardon. Meanwhile, Trump’s political allies, wealthy donors, and insiders skipped the process entirely.

After more than 33 years in public service, UC Irvine Police Chief Liz Griffin is retiring.  Chief Griffin led UCIPD with integrity, advancing community-centered policing, strengthening accountability, and building trust across campus.

The new “Task Force on Defending Constitutional Rights” held an entire taxpayer-funded hearing attacking DEI and supposed bias in legal education—without inviting witnesses who could meaningfully speak to law school accreditation, admissions, or how law schools actually operate.

President Trump has turned one of the most solemn powers of the presidency into a tool for rewarding political allies, wealthy donors, fraudsters, and insiders with access to the White House.

A task force supposedly created to defend constitutional rights continues to ignore illegal searches and seizures, politically motivated prosecutions, and the Constitution’s clear limits on presidential power, instead going after one of our most cherished American values.

Donald Trump didn’t just turn the pardon power into a pay-to-play scheme. 6,000 Americans who followed the Justice Department’s clemency process were quietly denied, while Trump’s political allies and donors skipped the line.

Months ago, I walked through Adelanto under ICE’s carefully curated tour. Everything appeared clean and orderly. Then I sat down with my constituents. Their stories painted a completely different picture—unsafe conditions, inadequate medical care, and treatment no human being should endure.

This is a defining moment. Every elected official, regardless of party, should reject these lies unequivocally. History will remember who defended our democracy and who stood by while it was under attack.

If news reports are correct, Trump will go on TV later today and again try to rewrite the history of the 2020 election, the latest in a sustained ‘Big Lie' to undermine Americans' faith in our democracy and, perhaps, to lay the groundwork for trying to steal the 2026 and 2028 elections ahead of us.

I voted yes on the Massie Amendment because I cannot in good conscience vote to have US taxpayers subsidize Netanyahu’s wars in the Middle East. I will continue to support defensive armaments, including components for Iron Done, to Israel, which are not affected by this legislation.

The Korean War was a brutal civil war that divided families and killed 10% of the civilian population. It ended over 70 years ago, but the formal declaration of war is still in place.

In the world’s richest country, no one should go hungry. But more than 4 million Americans are struggling to put food on the table because Trump and the GOP wanted chose tax breaks for billionaires over food assistance programs.

250 years ago, our Founders declared independence based on the radical idea that all men are created equal and endowed with unalienable rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This July 4, let us commit to continuing to fight for that American Dream for the next 250 years.

Mike Johnson sent us home for the second week in a row because House Republicans couldn’t govern. This is what dysfunction looks like: no results, no leadership, no accountability. The American people deserve a Congress that actually does its job.

I agree with Sotomayor’s dissent 100%. This Court is lawless and illegitimate, and they are overturning centuries of precedent and the plain text of the Constitution and the laws they are overturning to write new laws to help further Trump’s agenda.

Justice Sotomayor read her dissent from the bench. It reads in part: "Today, this Court undoes centuries of political practice and concludes that all three branches of Government have been acting in open defiance of the Constitution all this time. Its conclusion is wrong."
