Our latest paper on divalent rare earth chemistry is up on @chemicalscience.rsc.org! Electrochemical measurements of the RE(3+/2+) couple in neutral divalent anilide complexes weren't sufficiently negative to reduce 4,4′-bipyridine or pyridine – yet several do! See: pubs.rsc.org/en/Content/A...
Very honoured to have been awarded a Harrison-Meldola Early Career Prize (2026). I'm forever grateful to colleagues, collaborators, mentors, group members, and funders who have given me the opportunity to work in this community. Congratulations to all #RSCPrizes! (www.rsc.org/standards-an...)
Our latest paper in collaboration with the Liddle, @nfchilton.bsky.social and @conradgoodwin.bsky.social groups investigating uranium ketimides is now published in Inorganic Chemistry, with @john-seed.bsky.social and other Manchester and ANU Chemistry peeps: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
Reactions of a Uranium(III) Complex with N-Heterocycles to Form Diuranium(IV) Ketimides
The chemistry of the classical uranium(III) complex [U(N″)3] (N″ = {N(SiMe3)2}−) is well-developed; however, there have been surprisingly few studies of its reactivity toward N-heterocycles. Here, we ...

Proud of first year PhD student Iulia for winning a poster prize at the 59th @rsc.org @esr-group.bsky.social national meeting in Colchester. Iulia presented some of her work characterising the electronic structures of open-shell lanthanocenes and actinocenes. #EPR #RealTimeChem
Excited to show our latest preprint “Uranocenium – The bis-[8]annulene Uranium Cation”. Uranocene is oxidised to uranocenium cation both chemically, and electrochemically, with reversibility comparable to ferrocene. This derives from an unusual electronic structure. chemrxiv.org/doi/full/10....
Uranocenium – The bis-[8]annulene Uranium Cation | ChemRxiv
Uranocene, [UIV(η8-C8H8)2], is the actinide equivalent to ferrocene. While ferrocene is readily oxidised to the ferrocenium cation, higher oxidation states of uranocene are unknown. Here we report the elusive uranocenium cation, [UV(η8-C8H8)2]+ , and ...

Y'all wanted some EChem? Check out our contribution in InorgChem @acs.org towards tetravalent lanthanides, with @conradgoodwin.bsky.social, @john-seed.bsky.social, in collaboration with @gen-chem.bsky.social + @peremiro.bsky.social for calculations!
Synthesis, Redox Chemistry, and Electronic Structures of Bis-di(silylamido)silane f-Element Complexes
We report the synthesis and characterization of pseudo-tetrahedral f-element complexes bearing the sterically demanding bidentate di(silylamido)silane ligand, {Me2Si(NSiiPr3)2}2– (Me2SiN†N†). Two equi...

Happy to share Ben’s first full research article from his time in the group: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/... Challenging synthesis and some interesting new main group architectures making an appearance for the first time on an f-element. #Chemistry #Actinides #f-elements
Uranium(III) and Uranium(IV) meta-Terphenylthiolate Complexes
We report the synthesis and characterization of crystalline m-terphenylthiolate uranium complexes supported by the bulky ligand system, SAriPr6 (SAriPr6 = {SC6H3-2,6-(Tripp)2}; Tripp = 2,4,6-iPr-C6H2)...

Happy to announce two funded #PhD studentships for aspiring synthetic chemists to do some f-element molecule making. (1) High oxidation states; (2) Tuneable electronic structures for qubits. See: www.capgoodwin.com/pages/positi... for details, and below for both FindAPhD links.
Working on my X-it at the moment and shifting over here. The #Chemistry community is growing at a solid clip, and I look forward to seeing more new folks! It’s fitting that my first post here includes some glorious crystals and #felement colours. Courtesy of 2nd yr PhD researcher Cameron Deakin.
Hi #ChemSky! 👋 We see you! Please give us a moment to get settled here.
