That’s one way of looking at it. Mead isn’t a utility infielder. (Actually, the injured utility infielder in this scenario is probably Mayer.) But it is wild that this is Mayer’s fate. Not how I thought it would go down.

My irrational interpretation is that it’s an expression of organizational confidence in Seigler and Sogard (as bench players and sometime starters). They’re good vibes guys. Marcelo may have been a bad vibes guy. Also, he can’t hit, and he’s hurt all the time. Kind of sad but prospects do fail.
