Working together towards decarbonised, renewable and affordable heating and cooling for all in the EU.
Yesterday was Earth Overshoot Day: from today to December 31st, humanity's demand on nature is already exceeding what it can regenerate in a year. As the fastest-warming continent, Europe has every reason to make better use of the resources we have. 🧵👇 #EnviroSky
What's next for Europe's cooling and heating transition? 🎤 The Electrification Action Plan (EAP) points in the right direction, with promising measures like exploring a Clean Heat Market Mechanism and the promise of a separate Cooling and Heating Action Plan planned. The next steps are decisive. 🧵👇

Electricity is over twice as expensive than gas in all the EU except Sweden and Finland 💶 The graph in today's piece in The European Correspondent shows why gas remains cheaper to use than electricity. Taxes on electricity make up 25–35% of household bills, while gas remains lightly taxed. 🧵👇
Those breathing the dirtiest air can least afford cleaner heating ⚠️ In this report, BPIE analysed the investment needed to transition vulnerable households in 5 EU countries to clean heat and the readiness of their National Social Climate Plans (NSCPs) for this. 🧵👇 #EUPol
Good news: the European Commission has endorsed Latvia's Social Climate Plan 📝 🇱🇻 What does this mean for Latvians? Between 2026 and 2032, the plan will mobilise around €620 million to aid the households most affected by the clean transition. 🧵👇 What will that money actually fund? #ClimateSky
⚡ 🔌 The just released Electrification Action Plan includes an indicative target 46% electrification by 2040, a Clean Heat Market Mechanism, and a planned Cooling & Heating Action Plan. Next steps: read more on our website 👇 coolheatingcoalition.eu/2026/07/17/e... #EnergySky #ElectrifyNow

Today is #HeatActionDay, commemorated by the Red Cross & Crescent. This year’s theme: indoor heat. Workers and vulnerable people often spend long periods of time inside sweltering unventilated buildings, risking heat stroke and dehydration. In Europe, 60 000 died from heat in the summer of '22.
Home decarbonisation needs to move faster. Europe needs a clear policy that bundles all these fossil-free solutions for homes together. Not fragmented measures, not piecemeal fixes, but a proper package that makes home electrification simple. We call them “Independence kits” 🏡⚡️💪
Europe needs ‘independence kits’ to electrify every home
Simple, ready-to-install technology kits could cut bills and end fossil dependence. Davide Sabbadin explains why this is exactly the kind of household-oriented policy the EU needs during crisis times.

After two energy shocks, some countries are finally acting. Austria fully funds boiler replacements for low-income households. Belgium & Finland are cutting taxes to make fossil-free heating cheaper than gas. Germany & Spain are rolling out flat-rate public transport passes. Find more measures👇

The latest energy crisis sparked by the war in Iran and conflict in the wider region have once again highlighted a fundamental reality: fossil fuel dependency itself remains Europe’s core energy security risk. 🧵👇 5/8
⚠️Europe is still exposed to volatile gas prices due to high dependency on expensive LNG ⚠️ LNG dependency - especially on US imports - has grown rapidly ⚠️Electricity prices remain above pre-crisis levels because gas still sets power prices ⚠️In 2025 the EU spent ~€335 billion on fossil fuels 🧵👇 4/8
More renewables and lower gas consumption helped to bring down wholesale energy prices. But vulnerabilities remain. 🧵👇 3/8
⬇️ EU gas demand fell by ~19% ☀️ EU solar capacity more than doubled 🌬️ Wind + solar surpassed fossil generating ~30% of EU electricity 🔋 Battery storage more than doubled since 2023 📉 Russian gas imports fell from ~44% to ~12% 🧵👇 2/8
Four years ago, REPowerEU was launched as an emergency response to Europe’s worst energy price crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since then, the EU has made major progress. 🧵👇 1/8
