Big Minecraft fan. Developer working on Minecraft. Ask me about Realms 😁

It's getting cooler around here, and I hear Pumpkin Spice is back. Yuck! A more appetizing option might be these 1070 iOS Minecraft Preview slots we opened up today! As always, these can be found for a limited time at aka.ms/PreviewApple. See you next month!

Some very observant community members have noticed a purple Realms button in the Java Snapshot files this week 🧐 We experimented internally with what it'd look like as a purple button, similar to Bedrock, but we're planning on leaving it grey at this time 🙂

On my way to the airport, so more random Dungeons II facts. One of the many, many things I’ve done with this game was working with our consumer products team. They wanted about 18 months lead time before the game’s launch. Why so far in advance, how do you use WIP features, and why the “leaks”?

Java Realms sneak peek 👀 Our last new Realms feature for 26.3 is an updated Realms purchasing experience. Our charming pixel art helps explain clearly what Realms are and why they are worth adding 😀

A new screen in Minecraft Java Edition that explains about Realms with headings, "Play with up to 10 friends", "Minigames - Free creator content", and "A convenient private server"

Random fact: there’s a fly in Dungeons II that’s less than an ambient mob, it’s just a little screen effect. It won’t be in any marketing or toy, it’s not important. But it’s a “new Minecraft creature” so I asked for it to get a real, non-dev name. So the little fly is a “trill”.

Despite having a "no pop culture references" rule for Dungeons' achievements, sometimes something gets *really* stuck in my head and I need to walk away for a while to get a reset 😂 Like many nerds, I can speak in memes and that's kind of a downside here.

Java Realms sneak peek 👀 In the next Java snapshot, we're going to try giving players a render distance and sim distance slider for their Java Realms and increasing the render distance limit to 25 chunks. Here's an example of what that looks like on one of my Java Realms 😁

An island city in Minecraft with the left side showing buildings off in the distance with a large 25 chunk render distance and a much closer fog with only 10 chunks visible on the right side.

We've added Invite Codes to Java Realms in this week's snapshot! From the Players screen, you can access this new UI for creating invite codes. Anyone who you share the invite code with can join your Java Realm without needing to be directly invited. Great for busy Realms! 😁

The new Explorer Maps are my absolute favorite feature of this game drop 😁 It's great to have the old Bedrock player markers available in both versions of the game, and being able to find structures like Ancient Cities and Mineshafts is fantastic 🗺️

We have some new stuff for Java Realms in the works with hopefully more to share soon😄 Next up is a small hosting region addition. We won't necessarily have the new hosts like "CanadaCentral" available to pick, but the game will be all ready if we turn them on in the future.

Coming in 26.40: the in-game settings for your Bedrock Realms will now be in the new Ore UI interface! No more oddly spaced JSON UI settings 😄 We're gradually getting all the screens moved over to the nice new UI system.

Coming in 26.40: The fancy new Realms Saves UI will no longer be "Under construction" 👷😀 Manually back up your Realm world while you're playing, or restore a manual or automatic save from earlier if something bad happens on your Realm.
