Recently, someone asked online if Pinky and the Brain were still trying to take over the world… because they thought that they could do a better job than a certain orange felon. That prompted me to share this cartoon that I drew years ago.

A disagreement is over which episode of Babylon 5 is the best. It's a categorically different thing when the "disagreement" is about the validity of your friend's existence and if they deserve to be hate crimed or not.

Sad to see people posting on social media negatively about Rod Liddle, who died yesterday. If I have disagreed with you very strongly in life - and you die - I hope I'll be either silent, or kind.

As a Brit who was 13 when ghostwatch aired and bought the DVD the second he saw it in HMV- this is a pretty accurate review. It's hard to separate the emotions of young me when watching it, so it's nice to have that external, away from the hype viewpoint.

“As an American watching it streaming in 2026 (on Shudder), clearly labeled as fiction, it was near impossible to put myself in the mindset of someone in England watching in 1992.” spectrecollie.com/2026/08/01/g...

Oh man. This enrages me- as someone who knows his shit, I've seen LLMs output deadly "hallucinations". Foraging books for example. I've not poked it on HEMA stuff but I won't be surprised if it gives fatal advice. A science communicator uaing the lie machine. Fuck that.

Please don't go looking for this poster but this is *exactly* why Hank using AI for research is so dangerous. People trust him to be able to sort through BS, but if he's so crunched for time, there's no earthly way (imo) that he's double-checking all the facts that the misinfo machine spits out.

hankgreen just said that he uses #AI to make his videos, I *think* as a research tool, and he's so knowledgeable that IMO, it's fine. He can tell when an LLM gives him shit information.

This is, apart from knee damage, the biggest con of learning historical European martial arts. Pretty much every single bit of popculture information around swords is bullshit and it's only recently that fight choreography has even made a nod to real techniques.

I have a personal belief that the more a person is a nerd for something: dinosaurs, The Odyssey, etc, the less likely they are to enjoy a popular entertainment version of that thing.

Forced volunteering isn't the answer @mrjamesob.bsky.social The state has tried it for unemployed people and doesn't have the infrastructure to make a meaningful placement. You need to show people that their skills and knowledge are valuable rather than their selves as a resource to be exploited.
