Author, Librarian, & storyteller. READ MY DEBUT BOOK F*cked Up Fairy Tales from WW Norton! Recovering TikTokker. Rhode Islander. Filipina. Headshot by Brittanny Taylor.
Thanks so much to @libbyapp.com for recommending F*cked Up Fairy Tales! Fun Fact: the picture book they picked to compare to mine was the only fairy tale book my sister liked when we were growing up - and now she's the illustrator of my grown-up fairy tale book!

Man Vs. Machine but it's me insisting on blowing up the 5' wading pool myself because the hand-pump just ain't cutting it. (That's what she said.)
#FolkloreThursday friends, Hello! I recently learned of Mary de Morgan's "The Toy Princess" from Kate Forsyth's collections, and I wondered if there are more public-domain fairy tales or folktales about women who walk away from the crown like the Toy Princess does?
CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS I am signing and speaking at Dark Summer Book Fest this Saturday August 8 at the Framingham Public Library. Amazing lineup of authors! Would love to see you there! framinghamlibrary.org/news-events/...

Nolan being inspired by Wilson's Odyssey translation but not getting the women characters and then Wilson hating it and not getting that it's a great look at a classic through modern eyes is the funniest thing to happen to the classics since Aristophanes.
She also loved my book F*cked Up Fairy Tales (back when she blurbed it in 2025).
I just emailed myself with a reminder to build some sensory kits for our childrens room, which is a Disability Pride Month win, but I addressed the subject "Hey idiot" which is a Disability Pride Month fail.
I don't have two wolves inside of me. I have these guys. (I'm a perimenopausal woman on SSRIs in an irrevocably changed climate.)
On our way to brunch, a small child ran away from his mom and told my husband, "You did a great job as the voice of Bowser!" Then Dan said "Thanks!" And the boy said, "Your voice was lower in the movie!"
OMG my parasocial buddy BJ is 99% towards funding her insane dental surgery! BJ survived pancreatic cancer but the cancer took her teeth out of spite! If you have five bucks to throw in, I bet we can knock down that goal before the weekend!
Our buddy @bjcolangelo.bsky.social needs a little help from her friends (and I'm a bully). BJ needs what is, essentially, a full mouth replacement thanks to cancer radiation. We can't eliminate the dental trauma, but we can help with the life-altering debt. www.gofundme.com/f/bj-needs-a...
Amazing public support at the Cumberland School Committee meeting right now in support of trans students. I hope the committee listens. Shout out the queer person who, despite crying thru their speech, said the funniest thing I've ever heard: "I was so far in the closet I was Mr. Tumnus."
It's interesting that the wizard boy author hates the US president so much, because she keeps acting like him: getting worse and worse and more and more abrasive and hateful. Both are a poop-type Pokémon, coasting gleefully through the sewage, only evolving into an even bigger POS.
BIG OOF But it does end on an up note - when communities rally, these cuts can be avoided.
The State of Library Cuts in 2026 So Far
The word of the year for US libraries, whether public, school, or academic, is rough.

I'm an astrology skeptic -- except when I desperately need my Dunkin iced and everyone in the nighborhood is also in line and running late for work that morning.
Tragically, the book club kid who declared that China's five hundred year old Monkey King myth was a rip-off of Dragon Ball Z did not come to book club to discuss this more.
Back in my day, we typed out our RPF on a word processor and only shared it with two horny friends, because we had a healthy level of shame and no other option!
Also, I reviewed the book over @cannonballread.bsky.social
Oh God, I'm Discoursing (Mac Barnett's MAKE BELIEVE)
Mac Barnett is one of my favorite picture book authors. My favorite book of his, The Important Thing About Margaret Wise Brown, is one of my favorite picture books period. I reviewed it here for this ...

I haven't seen as much discourse on Make Believe here, but I figured I'd share my take in case it would do good. A lot of authors have been hurt at the many librarians and booksellers dismissing their issues w/ Barnett's criticisms of the kidlit industry. Here is my reminder to Barnett's champions:

Very depressing reboot of Oscar Wilde's "The Happy Prince" forthcoming.
The gold, 22-foot Donald Trump statue definitely isn’t a false idol. You can tell because Trump’s pastor friend said of the new statue at his Doral golf course, “Let me be clear: this is not a golden calf.”
I'm excited to report that at this time, days before all of my final wedding payments are due, my credit score is "exceptional."
This is going to ruin the tour. (What tour?) The book tour!
In his new book, Mac Barnett writes "I have a nagging fear that children's literature suffers from a slightly higher crud percentage than literature as a whole...maybe more like 94.7 percent of kids' books are crud." He currently serves as the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature
