Finished banner, all raw edged appliqué with thrifted fabric. I only kind of regret the red, because I love it. All flourishing is mutual. - Robin Wall Kimmerer #craftivism #banner #embroidery #slowstitching #quiltynook #bannermaking #textileart

Quilt race 2025! The assignment was to take an object in your room you like the silhouette of and make it in as many different ways as possible. And make a quilt top in an hour while listening to a curated play list. I didn’t sew at all, just pinned.
Started banner while in the #quiltynook skill share this afternoon. It will read: All Flourishing is Mutual, which is a quote from Robin Wall Kimmerer #protestbanner #craftivism #applique
Finished my travel project. Day 13: fire tower 14: rose petals my entire family keep tracking inside from the big wild bushes outside 15: my mom gave me a linen pillowcase her mom embroidered for her and it’s the one piece of ancestral embroidery I have. These lazy daisies are a tribute to it.
Travel project update (last slide is the whole thing so far): Day 7: water/river 8: switchbacks 9: the bees that are ridiculously loud in my mom’s roses. Or there’s not much noise pollution here. Maybe both. 10: scrabble tile and with my mom’s initial
Finished: Great Grandma Tillie. I learned so much doing this one! I’ll never make anything like this ever again, but the play and experimenting was priceless. I think I’m going to continue with portraits and I have an idea of where I want to go next.
Thrifted 360 colors of DMC floss yesterday! 2 yds of each color aaaand impossible to use without wrapping. So guess I’m wrapping. It’s from the 90s. I did need some good mid tones for my great grandma’s portrait. #embroidery #secondhand #thrifted
This one is done. Vintage linen napkin, indigo dyed at the Nook Huddle, taken on vacation and embroidered with whatever I had in my bag of random thread and however I felt like embroidering. #indigodyed #nookhuddle #embroidery #thriftedfabric #upcycledfabric #textilearts
Preparing to start exploring embroidery of faces with my great grandma Tillie. I watched the nook workshop by @sorrellck.bsky.social. I doubt I will follow all of anyone’s advice but it was lovely to watch and a good start.
Vacation project: about home and Montana and staying with my 80 yo parents Day 6: Montana in the summer is relentlessly sunny Previous days are in the last post #applique #slowstitching #embroidery #textileart #thriftedfabric #upcycledfabric
Vacation project update! I decided to do one thing to this every day we are here. 1 - on the airplane I did the couched purple circle and green stitching plus some other little bits of stitching and the tea stain which is definitely not set (before I came up with the idea of one thing a day)
Found this one at the used book store! Border to Border: Historic Quilts and Quiltmakers of Montana by Annie Hanshew. Can’t wait to dig in. #quilting
Meditative vacation stitching. On a vintage linen, indigo dyed at the Nook Huddle. #slowstitching #nookhuddle #quiltynook #embroidery #thriftedfabric #upcycledfabric #indigo
Layers! Also vacation project. This is a vintage linen napkin that was started when I did some printing (and brayer cleaning) with my friend Ellen at the #nookhuddle. I started embroidering to interact with the printing on our first flight today.
May reads! My favorite was Max followed by Sky. Academy of Liars was the only one I didn’t really like much. #booksky
New project. What is about linen? I love it so much. As well as the shredded edges. The purple was hand dyed by my friend Ellen. Green was a pair of pants. #slowstitching #embroidery #upcycledfabric #thriftedfabric
As promised, the back of the fish quilt. Featuring an indigo dyed piece I did at the huddle, print experiments from figuring out what to do on the front of the quilt, and a pieced block by my friend Melissa. #nookhuddle #quiltynook #quilting #improvpiecing #improvquilt
While at the #nookhuddle I made this fish quilt. It was a challenge quilt and all the fabric and other stuff besides the block prints, the upper right fish, and the green and purple background were not mine. Lots of the quilts had fish on them, they sort of became a theme.
These are our favorite books we read aloud this year! Two of them we read in the last month. And two we read sequels to. If you’re a homeschooler we’d love to hear your faves. #readaloud #booksky #homeschooling #unschooling
I went to the #nookhuddle and took like three pictures and rarely checked my phone. It was an amazing, perhaps life changing experience. If nothing else, it was a needed respite. I made a fish quilt. I’ll take a picture of it soon. Here’s a pic of the Smokey Mountains from the house.
