This is a flyer describing events tied to the Commission on Tephrochronology at the European Geophysical Union meeting that kicks of Monday May 4th There are two tephra-related sessions called “Hazards related to explosive volcanism: tephra dispersal and pyroclastic density currents” Posters are on Tuesday 5th May, 08:30–10:15 in Hall X2 and Oral session on Tuesday 5th May, 16:15–18:00 Room 2.21. With invited speaker Mathieu Colombier of Munich University And “Tephra research beyond boundaries: integrative applications and data-driven innovation in Earth system sciences” With Posters on Monday 4th May 08:30-10:15 in Hall X3; and Oral session on Tuesday 5th May 08:30-10:15 in Room 2.93. With invited speakers Matthew Loewen of the Alaska Volcano Observatory and Victoria Smith of the University of Oxford. Other related meetings and workshops include The Commission on Tephrochronology Community Meeting on Wednesday 6th May, from 19:00-20:00 in Room N1. Join for updates and announcements, including the next venue of Tephra 2028 and other exciting events. There is also the Tephra Information Portal Townhall on Thursday 7th May from 19:00-20:00 in Room M1. Find out what TIP is and how it is helping provide researchers with a central hub for discovering, accessing and sharing data. There will be a StraboField Tephra workship. This is a free field app to collect tephra stratigraphic data: Runs on Tuesday May 5th from 16:15-18:00 and 19:00-20:00 in Room 2.42. Next we stop at a favourite: Saskatchewan Crossing. #strataday. Loess, paleosols, and three (!) volcanic ash: Mazama, Mount St Helens Yn and Bridge River. Doesn’t get much better, unless you like glaciers. We finish at Athabasca Glacier. Beautiful but heart breaking in her steady retreat. 🧪⚒️
