Cllr Shuguftah Quddoos

Green Party Councillor for Berridge Nottingham | Elected in 2019 | former Sheriff of Nottingham

I've been on a mission to sprinkle some green joy around Forest Fields. Two new flowerbeds on Harcourt Rd & 30 hanging baskets on 12 other streets. Everyone deserves beauty on their doorstep, especially in the inner city. More flowers, less concrete! Big thanks to the council's Green Spaces team🌻

This is a historic moment: the first time the rights of Nature have entered the UK parliamentary process. The Bill recognises Nature as a legal subject, reorders the hierarchy of rights, creates a duty of care towards Nature and embeds Nature’s rights into UK decision-making across all sectors.

I'm always delighted to welcome Yr 10 students for work experience. Henry has made a hectic May feel refreshing💫 We've protested cuts to school holiday food vouchers, attended Full Council, sat in Planning Committee & doorknocked. Cherry on top is the Greens have another new member! 🍒

For years I've supported people from careworkers to Afghan refugees to university lecturers to apply for asylum & helped secure Indefinite Leave to Remain. Since Labour's cruel new immigration reforms, my residents are more fearful than ever. Migrants are our friends & neighbours, not strangers 🫂🌍

Lots of visits in recent weeks! Thanks to: Masjid al-Khazra for inviting the Greens to their community iftar; Salaam Shalom Kitchen for feeding 150+ people per week with warmth & generosity; Djanogly Academy students for their questions; and Notts Women's Centre for being a vital space to connect 💫

Hundreds of volunteers hitting the streets this morning in Gorton and Denton. Lower bills, tax the super-rich- hope will win. Only the Greens can stop Reform in this by-election.

Sometimes an act of kindness looks like a pirate ship or a purple bin bag🏴‍☠️💜 Grateful to everyone who responded to my shoutout for winter blankets for local families. We were able to gift toys for the kids too🎁 And also proud of Clean Champions who litter pick even on cold mornings #communityspirit

Yesterday was a monumental day for Nottingham and the Green Party. Through the efforts of our Green Councillor Shuguftah Quddoos and Party Activist Animah , as well as countless others, a motion to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction Israel has been passed uncontested.

Green Party Councillor Shuguftah Quddoos and Animah, who's important contributions made this motion possible. Supporters of the motion hold banners and placards outside of the council house. The banners read:
"Boycott Israel"
"Genocide in Progress. Sorry for the Inconvenience. Wake Up. Take Action."

Eliza's story is in Notts Live today. Her essential personal care has been cut as a result of Labour cllrs voting for a 'review' of high needs care packages. This is the human impact of cuts to public services. Disabled residents & unpaid carers deserve better & I'll keep amplifying their voices.

Before I was a cllr I worked for several women's shelters. Now, I often handle domestic violence cases & I couldn't do it without my caseworker, Tamia. She always goes the extra mile behind the scenes. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month & I want to thank her for the hidden work she does 🤍

Snapshots of summer in the ward🌻 Everything from filling potholes, street clean-ups & fighting evictions with ACORN Union... ...to refreshing disabled parking spots, celebrating community centres & checking in on elderly residents during the heatwaves. No two days are the same in this job!🏘♻️👷🏾

Know Their Names. Yesterday, the names of 18,500+ Palestinian children murdered in the Gaza genocide were read aloud in the city centre, from morning till midnight. I'm used to public speaking but the words have never felt heavier. Gratitude to Bridgford Muslim Action Group & others for organising🇵🇸

When Claremont Primary Wellbeing Ambassadors wanted to help their lonely classmates, we found a way to bring their idea to life. W/ the help of Selco, parents, some paint & pupils, 2 new friendship benches were recently unveiled🎨🫂 Always here to support my youngest residents to make change happen!

As another heatwave hits the UK, the UK Green Building Council have said the UK’s schools, care homes and offices are not equipped for the effects of global heating. We need a maximum working temperature and urgent adaptation to protect people from the effects of extreme heat.
