This week as part of Goose Hollow Days, I celebrated the centennial of the iconic Vista Bridge — a shining example of why we need to invest in lasting infrastructure! The afternoon featured horticultural displays, historic streetcar tours, vintage cars, soapbox derby races, and history talks.

Last night I attended Marshall Park Neighborhood Association’s annual ice cream social in the park that bears its name. This stunning natural area includes a 400-foot-wide canyon formed by Tryon Creek, which runs through it, and a waterfall framed by rock boulders.

Last weekend my staff joined Councilor Zimmerman to celebrate Forest Park Neighborhood Association’s 50th anniversary at Skyline Tavern. This unique neighborhood, at the edge of one of the nation’s largest urban forests, is part of a wildlife corridor that connects into Oregon’s Coast Range.

Great news: After a yearlong delay, the Washington Park Reservoir plaza and upper reflecting pool are officially opening to the public today! In 2021 the Portland Water Bureau replaced its original 1894 reservoirs with a 12.4 million-gallon, seismically reinforced underground reservoir.

This week I attended the latest Portland Police Bureau hiring ceremony, where 4 officers were promoted to lieutenant and 11 new officers were sworn in — including (from left) Brenda Padilla Cervantes, Arina Conners, and Tiffany Parker.

What better way to start the day than with a District 4 stroll organized by Oregon Walks! Executive Director Mike Dennis led us on an engaging walk through downtown, highlighting exciting new projects and unique areas like the Pink Light District. A great morning exploring Portland on foot!

Yesterday I joined Councilor Zimmerman for National Night Out at DeWitt Park in my former Hillsdale neighborhood! It was a joyous evening of kid’s activities, raffle prizes, and community connections with more than a dozen organizations. Appreciation to the Hillsdale Neighborhood Association!

Last night I had the pleasure of joining the Sylvan-Highlands Neighborhood Association for their bimonthly meeting. We had a great conversation covering a range of important issues, from traffic safety and crime prevention to housing and neighborhood concerns.

Last week I attended Portland Art Museum’s Summer Soirée, where British-Nigerian artist Yinka Ilori unveiled his monumental mural “Mountains Full of Blessings” — transforming a section of the urban street grid into a pedestrian plaza haven.
