Defining stability in metal-organic frameworks through rigorous characterization
MOFs are promising porous materials for energy, environmental, and industrial applications but only if they are stable under relevant conditions. Smoljan et al. present a tutorial-style perspective outlining rigorous, multi-technique characterization protocols for four major stability classes: thermal, chemical, mechanical, and radiation. Demonstrated across seven well-known MOFs, these protocols provide a practical roadmap toward standardized, comparable stability reporting.
