From polymerization to polymer backbone editing
Rather than creating new polymers, Hill et al. report the chemical editing of existing polyesters. Their carbonyl-to-thiocarbonyl strategy converts polycaprolactone into poly(thionocaprolactone), enabling selective backbone modification, tunable material properties, and altered degradation behavior. The study positions polymer backbone editing as a complementary strategy to polymer synthesis for designing sustainable materials.
